Narrative - Miss ( Updated )

Conventional ideas For a thriller Film :

We researched conventional ideas and elements of thriller films :
- Sounds ; Digectic , eerie sounds whether they be on-screen or soundtrack, non-digectic
- Editing ; Montage , slow pace
-Cinematography ; Close ups , long shots , establishing shot
-Mise-en-scene ;
- Lighting styles ; Low key lighting , high key lighting and natural light
- Iconography ; Weapons such as guns depending on the sub genre , cars , any props that enchance
the scene or are visible in the scene
-Location ; Setting can be urban or excotic more commonly Excotic
- Coustume ; Often colous presenting the quonnations such as black which represents negativity
as well as white which reflects purtity

Our Ideas for our thriller narrative :

Tres idea for a location was the excotic setting of woods and had the storyline of a person who stalked and followed people to rape them , this was a conventional and effective idea as it reflected the genre of thriller because it had excitement and fear as a main theme. Furthermore , his ideas of scenes such as a close up of a bystander being dragged away were effective as they created a sense of fear , and this linked back to the genre.
However , the thought of a rape scene in woods ,was un-orningal therefore we decided to take elements from this idea rather than copy it.

Jamies Idea on the other hand was about a child that grew up bieng bullied , this idea was set in a urban location of a city , the story goes on with the child growing up with an idea of revenge via the use of murdering them , this followed the conventuions of a thriller by the use of death as a theme.
However we thought was within this idea we couldn't show our genre as effective as another idea , therefore we just took the theme of murder and revenge from it.

My personal idea was based in a excotic location of a labortory where a drug tester gets given a new drug , and there are side effects which send the character in to a murdering physocpath , this follows the idea's of a thriller as it envovles a death and murder sitaution.
However the disadvantage of this idea is that it edges towards a sci fi genre and therefore doesn't follow our plan as a thriller.

We anaysled the effectiveness of each idea and focused on putting them into one idea which followed the codes and conventions of a thriller. We took themes from each idea such as death , obession and murder ; we also tooks ideas from each of the characters being described and developed them into our story.

Our Idea as a group :

Our group idea invovles the sub-genre of romance as it starts with a romantic scene where a heart broken man is expressing his emotion of anger with a close up of a picture of a couple , the theme of this scene comes from tre's idea of obession. As our film goes on the character starts to develop abnormal emotions which create a fear for the audicene , he slowly goes crazy and begans to consider murder, we developed this idea from jamies idea because it follows the pattern as a character slowly develops a burst of outrage and anger , and expresses it via the use of violence.
In terms of a storyline , our first scene starts with an image of a couple , a slow soundtrack is added to reflect the emotion the picture slowly fades into a scene where the photo that was shown is dropped on the floor where the glass is smashed , the scene then black outs , this is an effective scene because it introduces a theme of romance and violnece without giving away the storyline and therefore the audiecne are already engaged within 5 seconds of filming.

We also have another scene in which the main charracter , the pyscopathic male character witness's his ex-girlfriend with another man from a distance , we reflect this with a crane shot which fades into a extended point of view shot. With this scene we learn of the characters profile and his role in the film.

We anaysled other thriller film narratives and highlighted how they dictact the film and add to the sucess oif the film , from doing this we developed the key apsects of how to create a suceefull and effective narrative , therefore researching and anaysled other films narratives were helpful. The films we anaysled were scream and blade , which are conventional thrillers.

  1. Harry, this shows that your group have started to work well together to plan the narrative of your film and this is evident from the various ideas. As a group you also need to evaluate the pros and cons for each idea to show more evidence of planning and discussions. Also you need to include your thriller film inspirations too.

  2. Harry, this shows a good improvement from your previous post and this is because you have taken on my feedback well. This post now demonstrates further group well within planning your narrative of your film.

Remember to include examples to support the points that you are making on the films that you analysed as you need to refer to detailed examples to show evidence of the inspirations that you gained.
